It’s a thrilling moment. Well, at least for a second grader.
During the breaks we would all play ‘hide and seek’. One counts, the others run and hide.
I remember the times I had to seek.
It was exciting to see where others had hidden, but it was also really unnverving.
Where are they? Where do I have to go seek in order to find them?
I must admit I wasn’t a good seeker.
We might have stopped playing ‘hide and seek’, but we are still familiar with that feeling of excitement and uneasiness.
Especially in our faith.
We are told to “seek and you shall find”, and very often faith seems to be like a children’s game. We walk around looking at every angle and in every corner, but God is nowhere to be seen. We busy ourselves with religious rituals and become the best at praying, reading the Bible or worshipping in church – yet, we can’t find God. Our religion and our ideas of Him have become so thick that we can’t see Him anymore.
Yes, we are supposed to endure and persevere.
Yes, we are called to seek and wait and grow.
But I am done playing.
God is not the mean kid from class who hides and laughs at our feeble attempts to find Him.
He is a God who wants to be found.
He puts Himself out there every day, waiting for us to find Him.
So let’s go see Him as we admire His beautiful creation.
Let’s hear His voice as we listen to the people around us.
Let’s find Him as we walk through this world with open eyes and open hands.
Writing for Five Minute Friday today.
‘But I am done playing.
God is not the mean kid from class who hides and laughs at our feeble attempts to find Him.
He is a God who wants to be found.
He puts Himself out there every day, waiting for us to find Him.’

Hi Katha! Third Culture Kid? Us too-well, my kids at least. We’re Canadians who have been living for 10 years in South Africa. That book save me in the depths of our culture shock! Brilliant. I’d love to hear your story.
Yes! Great to meet you here! I checked out your blog a bit, Jeffrey’s Bay is beautiful! I have lived in Pretoria for a while and fell in love with this country.

Katharine, what a beautiful take on this week’s word! I’ve hidden from God at times in my life. I’m with you. I want to seek Him more and more. I want to be found by Him.
In the middle of a rough morning I’m going to look for Him. Thank you for this!
Thanks, Jeanne!
