Last week we were off for a few days, it was Fall Break. Many of us used the chance to travel to all parts of the United States. I joined a group that headed up North to the capital, Washington D.C. I was surprised by the beauty of the city, its diversity and nice flair. And it was nice for once to get out of Greensboro, enjoy some public transportation and different food.
Downtown we walked a lot and our feet were really sore after these three days, but the pictures should prove that it was really worth it! We started off with the monuments that most of you are probably familiar with from the news or movies. The weather was splendid and we could be outside most of the time. Washington has countless monuments to show its historical richness starting with the Founding Fathers to the Civil War or the World Wars or Vietnam.
Letzte Woche hatten wir ein paar Tage frei, es waren Herbstferien. Viele haben die Gelegenheit genutzt, um in alle Teile der USA zu reisen. Ich habe mich mit einer Gruppe gen Norden in die Hauptstadt, Washington D.C., aufgemacht. Ich war erstaunt über die Schönheit der Stadt, ihren Flair und die Vielfalt. Und es war schön, mal aus Greensboro rauszukommen, öffentliche Verkehrsmittel zu haben und anderes Essen zu probieren.
In der Stadt selbst sind wir viel gelaufen und unsere Füße waren nach den 3 Tagen wirklich müde, aber die Bilder sollten beweisen, dass es sich gelohnt hat! Angefangen haben wir bei den historischen Bauwerken, die die meisten wahrscheinlich aus den Nachrichten oder aus Filmen kennen. Das Wetter war super und wir konnten die meiste Zeit draußen sein. Washington hat zahlreiche Bauwerke, die die reiche Geschichte des Landes zeigen, angefangen bei den Gründervätern über den Bürgerkrieg bis zum 2. Weltkrieg oder Vietnam.

On the other side of town is Georgetown, the really old part of the city with cute little houses, nice cafés and great places to go out at night. While the city center reminded me very much of Rome or Berlin (with its imperial buildings), Georgetown could also have been somewhere in France or the German countryside.
Auf der anderen Seite der Stadt ist Georgetown, der alte Teil der Stadt mit süßen kleinen Häusern, Cafés und Bars. Der Stadtkern hat mich manchmal an Rom oder Berlin im Imperialstil erinnert, Georgetown hätte aber auch gut in Frankreich oder in Süddeutschland sein können.
Just a few blocks from the governmental district is Chinatown where signs change their letters, restaurants their menu and people their language. Welcome to diversity! And even though it started raining on the last day we weren’t bored at all. Washington has tons of museums and most of them are for free. We dived into the world of American History, Air and Space, the greatest library of the world and much more!
Nur wenige Blocks vom Regierungsbezirk ist Chinatown, wo die Schilder ihre Buchstaben ändern, Restaurants ihre Speisekarten und Menschen ihre Sprache. Willkommen in der Vielfalt! Obwohl es am letzten Tag angefangen hat zu regnen, war uns nicht langweilig. Washington hat zig Museen und die meisten sind kostenlos. So konnten wir eintauchen in die Welt der amerikanischen Geschichte, Weltraum und Flug, der größten Bibliothek der Welt und vielem mehr!
