Moving to a new city and starting a new job (the first real job ever) is quite an interesting thing. During the week I am incredibly busy preparing lessons and teachings, countless meetings and admin work.
But then there are the weekends or breaks when my schedule is empty and I have some room to breathe. It is in the quiet times when I realize how abandoned I am. Continue reading “No, You’re Not”

For Those Who Are Weak
“I’ve seen video content of a child that’s the same age as mine being raped by an American man that was a sex tourist in Cambodia.
“And this child was so conditioned by her environment that she thought she was engaging in play.” Continue reading “For Those Who Are Weak”
Why I Stop Taking Pictures
My colleague threw herself into the chair next to me. “What’s wrong with us? This week is horrible as if we have no time to breathe at all.”
She was right.
Rest in the Middle of Life
“Oh no, I couldn’t possibly. There’s just too much to do.
Work first, pleasure later.
I can rest when I’m done with everything.”
Do these statements sound familiar to you?
These battles inside of you between what your soul longs for and what your busy mind tells you to do? Continue reading “Rest in the Middle of Life”
The Power of Food
Welcome to the first Five Minute Friday of 2017!
I hope you had a great start into the new year and are excited for everything that’s to come. Despite all the hardships and challenges, may you have always discover beauty in the ordinary around you.
A new year is often a good chance to start or try something new.
I have lived in my new apartment for three months now. Since I also started a new job, my life has mostly consisted of sleeping, working and eating. I know the way to the grocery store, to the underground station and back to my apartment. That sounds a little depressing, I know.
In the new year it might be time to connect more.
The Terrible Difference of Now
Now.
Now we are in the final days before Christmas. Our houses are filled with candle light and the smell of Christmas cookies. After a long and busy year we just long for a few quiet days with family, rest and peace.
This is our now. Continue reading “The Terrible Difference of Now”
The Joy of Giving
December 6th is a special day in the German Advent tradition.
In memory of St Nicholas – a kind bishop from the Middle East – we celebrate kindness and surprise people with little gifts. For the children it is sheer joy to put out their little boots at night and find them full of nuts, clementines and candy in the morning.
When People Surprise You
For those who’ve been around this space for a while know that I am a newbie teacher who just started to experience ‘real work life’.
I work 100% even though it often feels more like 250%. I get up early, make some coffee, go to work, run around school all day from class to class, get home exhausted and prepare for the next day.
Five Minutes Can Make All the Difference
Just five more minutes.
Every morning I am convinced that my alarm clock is set too early. It can’t be time to get up yet.
Every morning I am wrong.
So I press snooze and catch an extra five minutes of sleep. Just five minutes.
Do they really make a difference? Continue reading “Five Minutes Can Make All the Difference”
What Do You Listen To?
I cannot remember the last time I was so exhausted.
I just survived my first week of teaching at the new school and I. Am. Done.
My legs are heavy from walking all these new unfamiliar ways. I go to bed like a grandma at 9 every night with no energy left for a life whatsoever.
My head is spinning and tired from hearing a lot of new information and meeting so many new people every day.
But I survived.
